Welcome to the Häagen Haus, the guest house designed to meet your every need!
The Häagen Haus is nestled in the historic Christian Hill area of Alton, Illinois, on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River. This two and one-half story brick home, built in 1870, reflects the Italianate school of Victorian styling and is surrounded by private brick courtyards.
The original owner of this home was Louis Häagen who opened a general store in Alton in 1854 and continued operating it until 1884, when he formed a stock company, the Haagen and Fuess Dry Goods Company. Mr. Häagen bought out his partner in 1885 and thereafter operated Alton's largest mercantile business in partnership with his sons, Louis J. and Paul F. Häagen.
Today, the Häagen Haus guesthouse offers its guests the ambiance of yesteryear with all the modern amenities. This one-of-a-kind retreat offers private 1 or 2-bedroom suites with living room, cozy gas fireplaces, fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom, and private brick courtyards. The Haagen Haus can also be opened as a 4-bedroom unit to accommodate larger parties.
The Häagen Haus is located within walking distance of the Argosy Casino, downtown restaurants and shops, and the Great River Road Scenic Byway. Whatever the occasion – wedding, anniversary, extended stay, a romantic getaway, a ladies getaway weekend, housing for holiday guests, eagle watching, a tour of the region, or business travel – Häagen Haus is designed to accommodate.
Daily, weekly, monthly, extended stay and corporate rates available. Getaway packages are also available. Please call 618-465-0123 or visit www.häagenhaus.com for rates and more information about your stay at the Häagen Haus.
